Pfaffl, Hundsleiten, Grüner Veltliner, Weinviertel DAC Reserve, 2015, white dry wine, Weinviertel, Austria, 3,0 NJP of 5,0 NJP (23-04-2016 by Nenad Jelisic)
This is a textbook example of how a wine from the Grüner Veltliner should smell (nose) and taste (palate). The wine has a wonderful appetizing crisp acidity and a really good minerality. Hints of peach, ripe pears, yellow apples, honey, white pepper, lime and white flowers. The vines, whh are used for Pfaffl Hundsleiten Grüner Veltliner are around 40 years old, grow on a soil that consists of flysch, clay, sandstone and quartz. The grapes for the wine are carefully selected in both the field and the cellar, and then destemmed and crushed very gently. The crushed mass (must) consisting of grape juice, pulp, skins and seeds is macerated for 8 hours and then pressed. Both the fermentation and the aging take place in the 50% large oak barrels and 50% stainless steel tanks, and after 6 months, the wine is ready to be bottled. Pfaffl Hundsleiten Grüner Veltliner 2015 fits really well as a wonderful aperitif (especially in summer) or with grilled cod with white wine sauce and boiled potatoes or with fresh steamed crab or with grilled chicken with roasted or stir-fried or grilled vegetables. Drink the wine at 8 to 10°C.
