E. Guigal, Côte Rôtie, La Landonne, one of France's most internationally known wine, which is made by E. Guigal wine estate. A 100% Syrah wine. The grapes for this wine, which are sorted both during the harvest and when they arrive in the winery, come from the vineyard La Landonne, which is located in the French appellation Côte Rôtie. After the sorting the grapes are destemmed. If one feel that the wine needs more structure, a small portion of the stems are allowed to follow with the must. The must is then fermented in stainless steel tanks. Only the natural yeast is used. During the fermentation, the must is pumped (remontage) over of grape skins (chapeau) numerous times per day. After the fermentation the wine is moved to the 228-liters new French oak barrels. In these, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and then a 42 months long aging. The wine is then bottled without fining and filtration. E. Guigal, Côte Rôtie, La Landonne has a large aging potential of up to 35 years. Only 9,600 to 10,200 bottles of this wine are produced annually. (2011-11)
